Introducing the “Orange Hill” Pear!

The “Orange Hill” Pear was discovered by Taylor Yowell, at the mailbox of an old homestead in Orangeville, Mississippi.

“Orange Hill is a ghost town, of a ghost town, the old booming town of Brownsville, Mississippi. Orange Hill is located a few miles north of Brownsville off Cox’s Ferry Road. This area is now considered Bolton, Mississippi. The Orange Hill/Brownsville area was originally settled in the 1830s, although slowed down when the railroad tracks where laid down in Bolton. The pictures themselves speak for not only the large crop of pears set, but also its sublime beauty of brown, orange color and smooth skin. These pictures were taken in December 2022, proving its value as a very late season pear for multiple uses; especially wildlife and perry, in my opinion. I am unsure whether or not it is fireblight resistance, although I have noticed none yet on the original tree. I just planted two grafted Orange Hill pears at The Garden Farmacy, LLC to evaluate further.” - Taylor Yowell
