Introducing the “Gateway” Persimmon!

The "Gateway" American persimmon, a wild selection discovered in Ridgeland, Mississippi by Taylor Yowell in 2020.

“I was hesitant to believe it was a find until sharing details and photos with persimmon-expert Cliff England. The flavor is of cotton candy, and the tree has been very productive every year since 2014, when I first discovered it in an overgrown hardwood thicket, between a tire shop and strip mall. I picked up 14 pounds off the ground yesterday, and lots more still to fall over the next two weeks. I guess this would be considered a early to mid-season fruit drop for American persimmons.” - Taylor Yowell
